Benitez couldn't save the barcodes from relegation a few years ago, when bought in when was Mclaren sacked, but did bring them straight back up the following season.

Same as Redknapp, at QPR

Good point - almost forgot about Farke. Decent manager for Norwich, that fella.

Burnley stuck by Dyche & he brought them back
Norwich have kept Farke & they are 10pts clear with 10 to play

Re: Chris Wilder leaves Sheff Utd
I'm sure there are one or two examples, but can anybody think of recent examples of a team sticking by a relegated manager and re-building for a while?

Generally speaking, it just doesn't happen nowadays. If that had happened to John Lyall after '78, there most likely would not have been the '80 Cup Final, boys of '86 etc.

Bit of loyalty would not go amiss in this sport.

Re: Chris Wilder leaves Sheff Utd
Big mistake by Sheff Utd, not that I care too much though.

A good manager for them. They're always going to be a yo-yo side and he, more than anybody, was the manager most likely to buck that trend for them despite what has happened this season.

Sheff Utd are exactly the sort of club that would otherwise appoint Sam Allardyce (if he wasn't already predisposed) and then Pardew, Bruce and all of the management merry-go-rounders...

Wilder was the guy who offered them something else. They should have stuck with him and got him to rebuild next season. But there is just no loyalty or partience in football these days.

Imagine what West Ham would look like if John Lyall had been sacked when we got relegated after 77-78?

Sydney - yes, confirmed on Sky earlier.

Stupid decision to let him go, given the timing. Although "by mutual consent" suggests it might have been more than just a case of 'letting him go', he may have made unreasonable demands or something like that.

Re: Chris Wilder leaves Sheff Utd
we should offer him a role of scout in the yorkshire districts,
and he can look for a managers post during the summer

Not that I really give a fuck!

Re: Chris Wilder leaves Sheff Utd
Considering he has taken them from League One to the Prem...I would think they would want that experience for next season. Unless of course he's a right arse and this is as good as reason as any to push him out.

Re: Chris Wilder leaves Sheff Utd
In hindsight they massively over achieved last season with several single goal wins like the Rice 'handball' game.
Lost Henderson back to Man U & a couple of defenders to injury.
As said a second season syndrome when the adrenaline from season 1 drops off and probably affected more than many by no home fans.
Spent £40m on the keeper & Brewster who I dont think has scored.

Still think the manager they will need to get them back up is basically an identikit of Chris Wilder.

Sean Bean, Jessica Ennis Hill, Kell Brook, Joe Root, Kevin McCabe, why did you all stand by and let this shambles happen without organising a march from Sheffield to the London Stadium in protest?

Re: Chris Wilder leaves Sheff Utd
Wilder’s side had run their legs off by lockdown. And despite the prolonged break when they came back for the fag end of the season their form was well off.

With some teams you need to look at how they fare towards the end of a season as a guide to the next. That SheffU are where they are is no real surprise.

Sander Berge. Need reinforcements in midfield.

I'd not be surprised if we ended up with John Lundstram instead given that he is on a free transfer and we have been linked before.

Premiership manager parts company with club. Still waiting to see this on the front page of the BBC NEWS web page - perhaps they could ask Sharon Osborne to just shut the fuck up and make way for something more important than her.

I wish nothing but shit to fall from the heavens and cover Bramall Lane in a thick layer of crap. However, I always quite liked Wilder and think he did a good (*Spits *) job at SU. Very pleased that he's gone though which means I can dislike them even more. Cunts, every single one. Tevez for manager anyone?
